Arnold Penno

The family of Arnie Penno is heart broken to announce his passing on June 24, 2022 at 3:14 am at Durand Manor in Golden, BC with family keeping vigil. It was a very peaceful death.

Arnie was born June 04, 1941 in Moosehorn, Manitoba, the youngest child of Emil and Emma Penno. They lived at many locations along the CNR tracks in Manitoba and Ontario and later settled in Fort William, Ontario. They moved to Golden in 1957 to join Alec and Dorothy Penno. 

Arnie spent his working career in the forest industry beginning with Sigalet Brothers, ending with Evans Products as one of the local owners.  He loved ploughing snow and mowing grass, ensuring that everything was neat and tidy.  He despaired at the conditions of local streets in the winter with narrowing roadways. He had ploughed the Sacred Heart Church parking lot for many years and saw that it was as smooth as a tabletop and also cleared the street in front from curb to curb, so people could park there too.

Arnie recently celebrated his 81st birthday and also celebrated his 61st wedding anniversary with his bride Carol on June 3.  They were proud to give a Christian witness to the Sacrament of Matrimony.

Arnie is survived by his loving wife Carol, four children, Sherry (Les) Hall, Donna (Corey) d’Easum, Loralie Laderoute (Jeff Pattison), Bill (Alison Nichol) Penno. They were blessed with 13 Grandchildren,       Crystal (Ryan) Tress, Ashley Hall, Christina (Martin King), Jayme (Jordan) LaRoy, Rebecca (Sean) McAteer, Asia (Travis) Nystoruk, Larissa (Brooks) Christensen, Derek (Candace Helbing) Penno, Jorden (Raegan) Sanche, Francis Laderoute, Ryan Laderoute, Tyler (Hailey Roberts) Hall, and Evynne Penno. Alexandra Shuba is also part of our family.  In addition, Life’s Treasures increased with 19 Great Grandchildren.  Kiarrah& Brayden Tress, Morgan & Emery Burns, Niah & Kayden LaRoy, Brooke & Meadow King, Lilliah, Kaleigh & Landen Nystoruk, Haisley & Silas McAteer, Kiefer & Kace Penno, Kennedy, Avery & Jase Sanche, and Luca Hall.

Arnie is survived by one brother, Allan (Grace) Penno of Golden. Brothers in Law, Gerry (Marilyn) Kramer, Robert Kramer, sisters in law, Violet Penno, and Joan Kramer, many nieces, nephews, good friends and neighbours.

He was predeceased by his parents, Emil & Emma Penno, sisters Margaret (Casey) Matheson & Dorothy (Dave) Alexander, Brothers, Edward  (Mary) and Alec (Dorothy), Lawrence (Dorothy & Ghislaine) , & Clarence. His in laws William and Helen Kramer. Nephews Don Alexander & Randy Scott,  Niece June  (Cam)Hillary,

Prayers and Holy Rosary were said Wednesday June 29th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the celebration of the Funeral Mass on Thursday June 30th  with Father Joseph Kizhakethottathil as celebrant. John Collison provided the beautiful music. Pallbearers were grandsons, Derek Penno, Jorden Sanche, Tyler Hall, Ryan Laderoute, Jordan LaRoy, Sean McAteer.  Honourary Pallbearers  Grandson Francis Laderoute and long-time friend Bill Sadler.  Internment was in the family plot at Golden Community Cemetery.  The Eulogy was humorously presented by Bill Sadler at the reception along with a slide show.

Thank you to the Catholic Women’s League for the delicious lunch following the Internment. God bless your compassion and willingness to serve others.  The family also expresses their gratitude to Durand Manor Staff for their kindness to Arnie in the two months he was a resident plus the respite time as well.  We can’t forget BC Ambulance Service that made a few trips to the house.  Our love goes to Dr. Virgina Clark for her outstanding care of Arnie over the years. Dr. McKnight and Dr. Drysdale also kept him going over the years.   Thank you to all who sent food to help feed this huge family, the floral offerings, Mass offerings and the meaningful sympathy cards. We won’t forget.   Much love from our family who all made it home.
