Garry Graham Obituary

On November 23rd, 2023 Garry Gordon Graham passed away peacefully at his home in Sorrento, BC, three days after celebrating his 83rd birthday.

Garry was born November 20th, 1940 in Kirkland Lake, ON. As a child, Garry grew up in Ninette and Brandon, MB but spent much time at his grandparents’ and uncles’ farms in the Wawanesa, MB area. He cherished these times and got to be known as a great storyteller as he recalled the many adventures that he, his older brother Roy, and all of his cousins had in their mischievous boyhood days!

Garry married Diana Deneka of Brandon in 1967. Their married life began in Brandon, but this all changed when Garry’s job with an oil company transferred him to Calgary, AB in 1972. It was in Calgary some years later, that Garry, along with Diana, made the life impacting decision to receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.

His life now headed into a new direction, Garry’s life and focus became one of real commitment to the Lord. He loved to share his faith with others when the opportunity arose! His great love for the Lord was especially seen in his marriage to Diana, the love of his life. Their marriage of 56 years was truly a role model for so many others as they were not just husband and wife, but they were the best of friends.

Upon retirement, Garry’s life changed again when they moved to Sorrento, BC in 2006. They have enjoyed living in this area and especially their close-knit church family at Living Waters Church in Salmon Arm. Many wonderful friendships have developed over the years to which they have been very grateful for.

Garry also enjoyed having coffee hours with his buddies in Vernon and lots of time playing Snooker with the guys at the senior’s hall in Sorrento. He loved the once-a-month Snooker tournaments they had together with lots of fun competition and laughs!

With all the good times he had with his buddies, however, the times he had with Diana topped them all. They really enjoyed one another’s company and would often spend time going on day excursions in the Okanagan and Kamloops area, visiting various shops, cafés and sites along the way. Most of these times were filled with adventure and fun, and they would often burst out into songs of praise as they travelled along!

Garry simply loved life, his wife, and his family, displaying a real trust in the Lord in everything he did and with all he encountered. We have peace in knowing he is now in Heaven, surrounded by his loved ones who went before him, completely healed and living free in the presence of Jesus!

Garry is lovingly remembered by his wonderful wife, Diana; nephew Greg Graham and son Logan, of Innisfail, AB; nieces, Kim (Dan) Libke of North Battleford, SK; Kelli (Leonard) Beaucage, of Red Deer, AB, along with the wonderful cousins and friends (of Man., Sask., Alta, and BC) he had the pleasure of knowing over the years.

Garry is predeceased by his mother, Florence Graham; his father, Orval Graham; brother, Roy Graham; father-in-law, John Deneka and mother-in-law, Daisy Deneka.

A celebration of life service will be held at a date to be announced sometime in 2024. Arrangements are entrusted to Bowers Funeral Services and Crematorium, Salmon Arm, BC.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Diabetes, Heart or Kidney Foundations.
