Marie Ashe Obituary

Edna “Marie” Colleen Ashe passed away on June 8th, 2021, in Salmon Arm, BC. She was surrounded by her three daughters and love of her life, Robert Smith. Marie led a vibrant and adventurous life before she succumbed after a quick, unexpected battle with cancer.

Marie was born on November 27th1951 to Edward and Edna Ashe. She was the fifth of 13 children who were born and partially raised in Victoria, BC.  In 1969, Ed and Edna decided to move their family to Burns Lake where Ed became the captain and manager of local ferry. This is where many of the children, including Marie, started to raise a family of their own, contributing to a large network of cousins who remain close to this day. Marie later relocated back to Vancouver Island and eventually retired in the Shuswap.

Marie had a real zest for life and brought an exuberance of energy when she entered a room. Her job in the travel industry allowed Marie to travel throughout the world with her family and a plethora of friends. Marie loved to entertain and was a remarkable chef and hostess. Marie loved many types of music and would always be found leading others out of their chair to dance.

Marie lived her final years with her soul mate. Bob and Marie were inseparable. They would be found chatting and giggling for hours on end like star crossed lovers many years after they met in Blind Bay.

Marie is survived by Robert “Bob” Smith; her 3 daughters Tara (Lorn) Johnson, Tanya Hiebert, Tennille Radley; her sons-in-law, Ron Van Tine and Stephen Radley; Stepson Justin (Tavin) Smith; her grandchildren, Anika, Ryann, Tyson, Connor, Sydney, Nash, Quaid, Suri, Sawyer and Finley; Brothers and Sisters Richard McDougald, Arlaine Beck, Mauraine (Mike) Gelling, Chuck (Darlene) Scarr, Ted (Karen) Ashe, Darlene Ashe, Shawn (Cindy) Ashe, Denise (Larry) Davies, D’Arcy (Frances) Ashe and Daniel Ashe, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her parents Ed and Edna Ashe; husband Ed VanDoorn; her 2 brothers, Patrick Scarr and William Ashe

Marie will be remembered by a private family ceremony on June 19th, 2021. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Shuswap Lake General Hospital or the SPCA.
