Stephen Harrison Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Stephen (Steve) Charles Harrison at their home in Sicamous surrounded by his family. Steve lost his 3-year battle with ALS / Lou Gehrig’s Disease on Monday, November 27th, 2023, at the young age of 60. He put up a courageous fight with the love and support of his family & friends. He used his crazy sense of humor to get us all through the tough stuff. Steve was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, son-in-law, brother-in-law, and half-brother.

Grieving his loss are; his wife Kelly, son Dylan & Morgan, grandchildren Christian, Landon, Parker & Emilie, daughter Alicia & Matt. Siblings; Michael (Dana, Kayla, Gavin, Julian, Robyn), Catherine (Ken, Sarah, Justin, Oliver), Philip (Bonnie, Bryce, Shasta, Kyla), mother-in-law Doreen Nowlin, sister-in-law Marcia (Ken, Tyler, Danielle, Ryder), brothers-in-law Darrel (Connie), Doug (Beverley), numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Stephen was born in Castlegar, BC on December 13th, 1962. He was the 4th child of Charles (Charlie) & Eileen Harrison, and younger brother to Michael, Catherine & Philip.

After graduating high school in 1980, Steve moved to Calgary where he met his future wife, Kelly French. They were married in Love, Saskatchewan in 1985, and welcomed son Dylan in 1986 and daughter Alicia in 1988. Steve qualified as a Red Seal Journeyman Mechanic, and they eventually moved to Fort St John, where he worked in the oil patch until 2000.

Steve then joined Kelly and business partner Dwayne in their geophysical consulting business “The Harrison Energy Group Inc” in the fall of 2005. Steve purchased a GIS program and started learning all he could about mapping. Being the perfectionist he was, he ended up being the best mapper in the industry and has been greatly missed since his ALS diagnosis took those abilities away. After 29 years in Fort St John, Steve and Kelly moved to Sicamous in 2018 to be closer to their children.

Steve had a great passion for music since he was 12 years old, and it only became stronger as life went on. He was a self-taught guitar player and always had a guitar in his hands. He became a collector of guitars but was quick to pass one on to someone he felt could use it more than he could.

His grandson Christian had shown interest in playing guitar and Steve decided he wanted to buy his four grandchildren each a guitar. He told them that for their 11th birthdays he was going to buy them a “Big Gift”.  He took great pride in researching and picking out each electric guitar with an amp, strings, picks, strap, case…the works. Christian was the first to receive his big gift in 2018, then Landon in 2020 and Parker in 2022. His grand-daughter Emilie will turn 11 in 2024 and the tradition will carry on.

Stephen was predeceased by his father Charles Harrison, mother Eileen Harrison, Father-In-Law Wes French, Brother-In-Law Cal French, Sister-In-Law Wendy French, Half-Brothers Dennis and Billy, as well as numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins & Nephews.
